Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed the unique value of NATO in remarks to the University of South Florida on Thursday 25 March 2021.
In a session entitled „The Future of NATO“, hosted by the University’s Institute on Russia and the School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies, the Secretary General said that today’s global challenges make a strong transatlantic bond more important than ever. Mr. Stoltenberg also set out his vision for the NATO 2030 initiative to future-proof the Alliance, which will form the heart of the agenda for the NATO Summit later this year. He also took questions from students on topics including Afghanistan, China, and the security implications of climate change.

Relations between NATO and Ukraine date back to the early 1990s and have since developed into one of the most substantial of NATO’s partnerships. Since 2014, in the wake of Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, cooperation has been intensified in critical areas. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, NATO and Allies have provided unprecedented levels of support.
